You don't need a client to update ElvUI/TukUI to a new version tbh. Just use the download links on their webpage and extract and overwrite the content to your WoW/Interface/Addons -folder. I've never used a client to update ElvUI and this manual method hasn't caused any issues either. For the UI scaling issue, have you tried running the ElvUI 'installation' in the game?
