I think of you in silence, I often speak your name. All I have are memories and a picture in a frame. Your memory is a keepsake, from which I’ll never part. God has you in his armsI have you in my heart.” Anthony Robert Salsgiver was born on February 16, 1976 at Los Alamitos Hospital in Los Alamitos, California.

He was born to George Preston and Nancy Marie Salsgiver. Anthony was the last of three young boys and was often teasingly referred to as the “Baby,” even well into his adult years. As a small child, Anthony was easygoing, laughing and smiling often; some of the traits he was always best known for.

Residing in the city of Paramount at birth, Anthony and his family soon moved to Lakewood where he spent a good deal of his childhood years. Like so many other boys, Anthony enjoyed playing on the local little league team and riding his bicycle with his friends.

He liked watching cartoons with his buddy, Justice, and often did so while enjoying some mac and cheese with ketchup. When the weather was warm, he could be found skateboarding with his friend Rod, heading to the park to go swimming, or just hanging out playing with his collection of G.I. Joe soldiers. As do so many kids, Anthony enjoyed hanging out with his friends while listening to music, and was a big fan of both Michael Jackson and Vanilla Ice. He was also an avid break dancer, often competing with his buddies and neighborhood kids during makeshift shows in the front yard of his family home. Next to home, his favorite place to be was at his Avo’s house, playing with his cousins.

Anthony attended Willow Elementary School in Lakewood. He was an accomplished student and was well liked by both his teachers and classmates.

During the summer of 1987, Anthony and his family moved to the Inland Empire and settled in Ontario. He was enrolled and attended Vernon Junior High School in Montclair and, within a short time, met a number of young men who would come to be lifelong friends.

Ralphie, Raymond, and David were just a few of the many he would befriend but would prove to be some of the friends he held near and dear for years to come. His teenage years were typical as he became involved in different sports, enjoyed his various hobbies such as video games, his collection of action figures and comic books and, of course, chasing girls. Anthony moved on to Montclair High School in 1990 were he settled in as a charming young freshman with a growing number of friends. His childhood passion for sports led him to join the high school football team along with his friend Raymond. During his sophomore year, Anthony met and quickly bonded with Corey, a friendship that would continue to the end. It was also during this time that Anthony met and began dating Maria Vega, the future mother of his two beautiful children. Anthony and Maria began dating in the summer of 1992 and welcomed the first of their two children with the birth of their daughter, Jazmin Monique on November 14th of 1993.

Against all odds, after the birth of his daughter, Anthony’s commitment and determination to be a good father and provider only motivated him more. As such, in June of 1994, Anthony proudly received his high school diploma from Valley View High School in Ontario.

The first in his family to graduate, this was just one of many accomplishments he attained during his lifetime. Anthony went on to attend Chaffey Community College and amassed a number of vocational certifications that would help to define his career path. As a young father, Anthony quickly rose to the task, surpassing many other’s expectations. He was a proud, caring, and loving Daddy to his daughter, Jazmin, and the two were nearly inseparable. Never one to renege on his responsibilities, Anthony assumed a leading role in the care of his daughter and always put her well being first and foremost. Anthony flourished as a father and his commitment to his young family would only become stronger with the birth of his son, Sebastian Anthony on February 23rd of 1995.

It was during this time that Anthony met Frank, yet another dear friend with whom he would form a lasting bond. The welcome addition to his young family only seemed to motivate Anthony in his accomplishments. A young father to his two babies, an insurmountable challenge to so many others, Anthony not only managed but excelled in these responsibilities.

He was an amazing Daddy and always made the time to laugh and play with his children. When he wasn’t enjoying his time with his family, Anthony was hard at work to provide for them. His hard work and dedication allowed this family to purchase their home in 1996, yet another proud accomplishment for such a young man. Unfortunately, as the years went by, Anthony and Maria struggled to maintain their relationship and, as a result, went their separate ways in 1999. Once again, Anthony managed to overcome this setback and continued to be a loving and supportive father to his children. As his children grew, Anthony made it a point to be involved in their lives, often coaching little league for Sebastian and mentoring his daughter, Jazmin, when she took an interest in softball.

He rarely missed any of their sporting events and often made these a family affair, bringing along his Mother and Father to cheer them on. Anthony loved to get outdoors with his children and enjoy their time together. They enjoyed spending time on his boat, fishing and swimming or would often head up to the mountains to play in the snow. He shared his passion for sports with his children and could often be found in the front yard playing football with all of the kids or shooting hoops. During the summer, he could nearly always be found in Grandpa’s pool, surrounded by his kids and their cousins.

A kid at heart, he was a magnet to all of the children in his life and was often stirring up playful mischief. As the youngest of Anthony’s nephews and often the target of his antics, Vance quickly dubbed him “Uncle No No”.

Anthony also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and rarely passed up an opportunity to do so. He spent much time with his brothers, often heading out to the desert to go paintballing or riding dirtbikes. While at home, Anthony truly enjoyed gardening and took up growing his own peppers that he would use to master his own salsa, which was often a part of his Sunday football festivities.

As an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, he rarely missed a game and often donned his jersey on game day, along with his son, Sebastian, and his father, George. Anthony enjoyed working with his hands and chose a career in the manufacturing field. He excelled as an Industrial Electrician/Machinist and worked for numerous companies in the Inland Empire for over 15 years.

His intimate knowledge of PLC, robotics, and electronics allowed him many opportunities, including travel abroad. Anthony’s unique abilities and dedication were recognized as an asset to his employers and coworkers.

Unfortunately, the manufacturing industry in California was taking a big hit due to the economy and in 2009, Anthony found himself unemployed. Being out of work and struggling with serious financial matters were the first of many difficult setbacks that Anthony would face in the coming years. Personal family issues troubled him as well during this time. Sadly, on July 24th of 2009, his oldest brother, George, passed away suddenly, dealing yet another devastating blow and one that he would never truly be able to recover from. On the morning of Saturday, March 26th, 2011, Anthony lost his longtime battle with alcoholism.

Anthony is preceded in death by his brother, George Preston Salsgiver Jr. He is survived by his parents, George and Nancy; brother, Brian; children, Jazmin and Sebastian; sisters-in-law, Kendra and Sheryl; nieces, Jessica and Gylian; nephews, Sean, Georgie, and Vance; and his best friend, Ralphie. Anthony’s passing has left a void in the lives of countless others who had the privilege of knowing him.
