Mx 5500 Drivers For Mac
I have had this combo for over three years now without any product quality issues. At one stage I was constantly getting keyboard dropouts with missed keys and sometimes sticky keys. It turns out that the only cause of the issues was using the wrong type of batteries in the keyboard. You must use ALKALINE batteries with this product.
Any other type will result in poor performance and connection issues. Don't ask me why but I have tested with several other types and it only worked reliably with alkaline batteries. I have had no issues since I made the change. Obviously this wouldn't be the cause of any mouse issues but so far my mouse has been flawless. Set point also no longer displays the image of the mouse supplied with this combo so it is difficult to work out which button I'm making changes to. Purchased at.
I was after a more ergonomic keyboard and mouse for home and the office and after doing a lot of research on the web found a few models I liked. I think I initially picked this on as it has the softer touch keyboard. At home I use the Bluetooth (BT) dongle as my desktop tower successfully and and work I use the native BT to connect to my Lenovo laptop. Works fine with both. Both keyboards have been in my possession for about a year and they have worked flawlessly since then. My work set is used heavily - I type all day!
The home one is still just fine too. I like how the keyboard gives a tiny beep when an email comes in or another when you hit the CAPS Lock. The multifunction keys are just excellent too. Decent keyboard but the combo is seriously let down by what looks like lack of communication between the mouse and BT receiver.
Mouse cursor will slow down for no apparent reason and then jump and skip to location which is extremely annoying and makes it almost unusable. Mouse is very small and although it's shape suggest some sort of ergonomics, the size fails (unless you have very small hands) I have another 2 Logitech keyboards and about 4 more mice and they are logitech universal receiver and work soooo much better than this expensive set. Keyboards are keyboards, right? Where I work, the difference between a decent keyboard and dodgy one means the difference between getting your work done on time and throwing the whole thing in the bin in frustration. That was all there was to it, so I thought, until I bought this combo. This brings a new level of awesome.
The keyboard has a strange feel. If you'll excuse the onomatopoeia, it's not clacky, like those old IBM keyboards. It's not tappy, like a chiclet keyboard. It sits somewhere between springy and clicky. This might sound silly, but the affirmative action of a keyboard is one of the biggest functional requirements, in my opinion.
If I don't know I've pressed because the feedback is spongy, or they're too hard, I simply can't use it (which explains why the 'laser' and 'mat' keyboards do not appeal to me in the slightest. The wrist rest is in just the right spot.
It's not too huge to take up the whole desk, and not too small to be ineffective. The grip between the keyboard and desk is great. It stays exactly where I put it, no matter how feverish my typing becomes. It is almost silent, even under a barrage of keystrokes. I was asked if I was actually doing any work because there wasn't the usual clickety clack coming from my desk. The numeric keypad is at just the right location to be easily accessible.
I haven't used to window flippy thing on the left hand side too much. The LCD is neat.
I look down, and it's got the time in big, bold digits. I tap a button, and it has the number of keystrokes I've performed. It's got my mail notifications, media centre controlling, ambient temperature and, cleverly, an inbuilt calculator.
Why is that cool? Because I don't always want to use the calculator on the machine to do a quick addition. Plus I can send the result straight to my document or application. Then there's the mouse. It looks daunting, but it feels neat.
It fits my hand (my hand doesn't have to fit it), and the buttons are responsive and affirmative. The middle wheel spins easily enough, then, if I'm scrolling down a long page, it kicks into free-wheeling mode. It also has a spring loaded half wheel next to the thumb, so I can move up and down pages without having to spin. The charger for the mouse is cool, too. I just put it on, and it finds its way into its little nook and charges happily. I haven't drained the battery yet, so I don't know how long the mouse charge holds, but it's more than a few days, that's for sure.
And the Set Point Software. It tells me the battery state of the mouse and keyboard, how many days left on the charge. I can reassign keys, mouse buttons, actions, even open particular programs, my programs, with the tap of a button. The only thing I found annoying with this was that the Logitech website did not seem to be able to find the drivers and updates for this model (I like to update any product's drivers first thing). This could be website thing, but it was frustrating. The price tag is at the upper end of the market. I was considering going for a lesser model, but I'm so glad I didn't.
Also, I shopped around and found a large difference in price between retailers. I have used Logitech mice and keyboards for over 20years and have been happy with all, but, this to me is a total dream! The keyboard is amazing, easy to use, responsive and has heaps of fabulous tricky bits to completely customize your workspace, it looks hot and I'm wrapped. The mouse is a sexy design, ergonomic and easy to use, great for someone who has hand problems, her skinny waist with thumb support makes it the ultimate little number, responsive and I must say she's my favourite pet at the moment!! I thought the price was fair for an amazing little duo!!
I spent $150 on this Wireless Keyboard and Mouse setup. I have been stung big time. Keyboard is nice and good design. The mouse design is good and ergonomic. But the performance of the mouse is terrible. Frequent lagging, mouse jumping and freezing. Have tried: Fully recharging mouse, updating all device drivers, placing bluetooth right next to the mouse, changing settings on WiFi and also praying to god.
Why sell products that simply do not work to a standard. I am a computer technician by trade and never again will I be stung by Logitech. I'd owned a Logitech keyboard/mouse combo before and found it to be excellent.
I decided to get a new one with a new PC purchase, and I did my research so I was surprised to have the issues I did, mostly with the mouse. I found the mouse dropped in and out of range when it was within the required distance to the transmitter. At first I wondered if the battery only last. I've used a few keyboards before and I find the MX5500 to be one of the best (typing this with it). The keys are fairly soft, their size and curvature seems right as well.
It has few additional shortcut buttons that once you get used to are hard to go by without. I did have one strange issue with the keyboard. I replaced the Duracell batteries when they ran out with Eveready and the keyboard started playing up. The buttons would get 'stuck' when pressed only once (ttttttttttt.
Etc) and in general they keyboard would lag. After some searching it turns out that the issue was with batteries (I still don't understand why and how this is possible) but replacing Eveready fixed it. The mouse on the other hand is a major disappointment. It works on and off, I'm not sure if it's a large amount of wireless equipment in the office or something else (haven't been able to find a fix and it's out of warranty).
When it does work it's good (saying this makes the following points almost obsolete): the shape is good, the back/forward buttons and the scroll wheel are all fine usability wise. For a $200 product I think Logitech can do better.
Well, start with the mouse: it's ergonomic, but a bit too small (and my hands are actually on the small side) also the resolution of it is really bad (unless you're coming from a very crappy mouse). The buttons aren't all good, middle click is in fact quite hard to input. You can't freely set associations either; eg you can't put the mid-click on the button below the wheel. And even if you set the side-wheel thingo to be scroller, it's click never registers a middle-click. The keyboard: not very ergonomic. I find it uncomfortable as it curves, and the angle of the keyboard is too low, even with legs out. The F keys are nearly hidden.
Again, you can't freely set all button associations. (It seems at first you do, but alas not) Eg; you have a calculator button which you cannot set to the system calculator. It'll only ever work on the keyboard lcd.which: The keyboard LCD is so low-light that it's practically invisible nearly in any light condition bar total darkness (even the 3 monitor's light is too much!). The LCD function aren't all working either, eg the email thing is notoriously hard to get working. All in all save your money, buy a simpler (eg microsoft) keyboard, a gel wrist-rest, and a SteelSeries mouse, you'll be much happier. To put it bluntly, i wish another company made a keyboard/mouse combo as good as this so i could buy that instead of logitechs one. Because of the rubbish customer service from logitech.
I contacted the company because the 1mm thin keyboard legs broke after i used them 5 times. The customer service reply i got was ' i cannot do anything about it'. I was willing to pay for the replacement legs, but they dont care, they dont want to know about your problem. I emailed them again stressing that i cannot use my keyboard flat and it is very uncomfortable, and you know what they said?nothing. I pay $200 for an item that i use everyday, the moment something goes wrong, logitech doesn't want to know about it.
In my opinion, it doesn't matter how good a product is, if the customer service is bad, it ruins the experience and i start looking at the item negatively. Because of their lack of design, customers have to suffer with defected items, and the only option logitech gives them, is to buy a completely new item again. This is the best mouse/keyboard combo on the market. Unfortunately the company selling it has the worst customer service.
I have been using logitech keyboards and mice for at least 7 years now and I can honestly say that they are my favourite keyboards and mice. This one is no exception, it's worked great since the day I got it over a year ago and continues to do so today. I like the quick keys that control the media player since I use it with my TV from the couch sometimes and it beats clicking with a mouse.
I also like the shutdown button and the comfort of typing on this keyboard. I hope the other reviewers were just unlucky with their keyboards because I don't like the sound of their experiences, but for me it's all been great, in fact my old Logitech keyboard/mouse from 7 years ago is still going strong and being used daily by my friend who I sold it to second hand. I've had my Logitech MX5500 keyboard and mouse combo for close to a year with no problems, and I'm 100% happy with my purchase. I would give it 5/5 stars if it eliminated the Bluetooth lag, but this combo is still a very good all-rounder. I wouldn't recommend it for dedicated gaming machines though.

Keyboard Very comfortable to use, and looks great. I like the Logitech delete key setup and the LCD display (although I wish it could be programmed like the more expensive G series Logitech keyboards).
The integrated rest is comfortable, and normally I hate keyboard rests! The keyboard calculator is brilliant, I'm surprised how much it grew on me. There are a few gripes I have with the keyboard. The function keys are customisable within limits, I wish they could be assigned to ANY program or even made to run a macro.
The media player annoys me - the buttons are stiff and the volume is a rocker rather than a dial. There are 3 keys under the numpad which I've never used (Vista-centric keys) and cannot re-assign. Mouse The Revolution mouse is BRILLIANT. I moved from a mid-range Microsoft mouse to this and will never change. To call it comfortable is an understatement.

The thumb rocker has a nice tactile feel, although having small hands it's a stretch to rock it forward due to the distance away from my thumb. The scroll wheel is a masterpiece, it's easy and very useful to switch from the smooth freescroll to the tactile response mode (and oddly, quite fun to do so!). There are lots of buttons to be able to program how you wish, making computer navigation more convenient.

The mouse occasionally freezes for a short period of time, which only bothers me when I'm playing games. This is probably a Bluetooth issue, as I don't have this problem with the normal wireless mouse. Like my last Logitech mouse, the symbol appears to be wearing away due to use.
Dock Small footprint, unobtrusive and not too ugly looking. No problems with mouse recharging yet.
